Descripción
The first sparkling wine—Brut Nature—from Bodegas Vega de Yuco exudes modernity and elegance, while also showing respect for the land and traditional viticulture in Lanzarote.
Princesa Fayna, the aboriginal queen of Lanzarote, is Vega de Yuco’s latest venture to preserve and promote the island’s oldest wine-making heritage. A minority crop that is mainly represented in Lanzarote by the Diego grape variety. The vine used to grow throughout the south of the Iberian Peninsula but practically disappeared after the phylloxera plague of the late 19th century, which affected almost all European vineyards. Diego, like other varieties on the island, is pre-phylloxera and survives in Lanzarote thanks to the ingenuity and efforts of the men and women of this land who knew how to preserve this natural wine-growing heritage, which is unique in the world and of extraordinary value.
The grapes used to make this Brut Nature sparkling wine come from the natural area surrounding Juan Bello Mountain, specifically from plots located in a cold area of the island. From century-old vineyards, where this grape variety reigns supreme in Lanzarote. It is cultivated using traditional, artisanal methods and in pits. It is also harvested later than other varieties.
