The Vega de Yuco winery stands in the middle of Lomo de Tese, nestled in a valley of vineyards, volcanic ash and a few white houses built in traditional style that dot the idyllic wine-growing landscape around Masdache (Lanzarote, Canary Islands).
It was founded in 1997 and is part of the Lanzarote Wine Designation of Origin. It currently produces and makes more than twenty different wines, renowned for their extraordinary quality, from grapes sourced from more than 250 winegrowers in different growing areas across the island.
With the strength and identity of Lanzarote, its wines are also a true reflection of the island’s rich varietal heritage, with Malvasía Volcánica, Diego and Listán Negro grapes predominating in their production. They are a caress of sensations with a strong personality, complex, unctuous aromas, fresh, pleasant and full of nuances.
From the premium range with the Princesa Gara line to the renowned Esencia Yaiza with its unique design and blue bottle, this winery’s offerings are rounded off with its first line of Vega de Yuco wines, the freshness of the Riscos de Famara line and the semi-sweet, fine-bubbled +Dach wines. Vega de Yuco also offers a varied range of traditional liqueurs made from blackberries, herbs and even coffee, sweet wines and Famara muscatel, a muscatel liqueur wine with more than a decade of tradition, Aurum, and an Organic Volcanic Malvasia from certified estates.
Princesa Fayna is the latest gem from Bodegas Vega de Yuco. The winery’s first sparkling wine. A brut nature made from 100% Diego grapes, from a plot located on the slopes of the Juan Bello volcano in La Geria, aged for 24 to 40 months. It will be released in April 2022 with a small production of only 600 bottles, commemorating the winery’s 25th anniversary.
The winery has a small shop where it sells all of its wine ranges available on the market. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, except public holidays, from 9am to 3.30pm. It also offers online sales through its corporate website, www.vegadeyuco.com, with distribution to the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and the rest of Europe. It also offers pre-booked visits, subject to availability, which can be arranged through its website in the wine tourism section.
It is currently in the process of opening his new wine tourism project, Finca Testeina, located in the heart of the Protected Landscape of La Geria, just two kilometres from the winery. In his commitment to preserving the island’s wine-growing, agricultural, cultural and heritage heritage, he undertook this project to restore and rehabilitate the estate and the historic house (16th century), which is presented as an open space for enjoying different and innovative wine tourism experiences and as a unique and singular space on the island of Lanzarote for hosting group events, weddings, conferences, meetings and incentives.

The origins of Bodegas Vega de Yuco date back 25 years. Today, it is one of the leading wineries in the archipelago and one of the largest in terms of production in the Canary Islands. Two decades marked by the excellence of its renowned wines, which, in a calm, discreet and humble manner, have managed to position themselves beyond the borders of the eight islands.
More than 25 years of history marked by several significant milestones since 23 April 1997, the date on which it was established as a winery.
Without intending to, Rafael Espino, owner and current manager of Bodegas Vega de Yuco, backed by his professional experience in the sector and his academic training (as an agricultural engineer and specialist in agricultural economics), began to produce the wine that years later would become one of the most renowned wines in the Canary Islands and the Lanzarote Designation of Origin.
On 23 April 1997, the winery was established with its temporary headquarters in a small warehouse in La Vegueta, in the “Maretón de Yuco” area. This area of Tinajo gave the winery its name.

Rafael Espino Curbelo – Vega de Yuco Winery
Agricultural engineer and specialist in agricultural economics, Rafael Espino Curbelo is the young entrepreneur who runs one of the most renowned wineries in the Lanzarote Designation of Origin, known for its award-winning wines. Rafael began his career in the wine industry in 1997 with the founding of Bodegas Vega de Yuco. He inherited his passion for wine culture from his grandparents, who had strong ties to Lanzarote’s agriculture and vineyards. He combined this passion with his academic training at the Technical School of Agricultural Engineers and the Complutense University of Madrid, where he later completed his higher education with a Master’s Degree in Auditing and Business Analysis. During his career, he has also participated in various institutional, academic and teaching projects. Of particular note is his participation in the Preliminary Project on Organic Agriculture of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the preparation for the Cabildo of Lanzarote of the “Study on the viability and constitution of a regional winery” (1998). The Preliminary Agricultural Plan for Lanzarote (1997) was also under his direction. He has collaborated as a technician and advisor to other wineries and has taught several courses. In 1995, he was manager of the Regulatory Council of the DO Vinos de Lanzarote.
La bodega, tras 25 años de existencia, se embarca ahora en un nuevo proyecto de enoturismo en la isla de Lanzarote con la casa emblemática de Finca Testeina (S. XVI).
