The Winery

ABOUT US

Our history

Vega de Yuco is a traditional Canarian winery that exudes authenticity and innovation. The winery offers us genuine wines that are highly expressive and have a unique personality.

Our winery, which is part of the Regulatory Council of the Lanzarote Wine Designation of Origin, has been combining great artisan tradition, technology and innovation for more than two decades to create wines of extraordinary quality across its different ranges.

Where?
In a privileged location on the island of Lanzarote. The winery, surrounded by volcanoes, is located in the middle of Lomo de Tese, 1 kilometre from the village of Masdache and in the direction of the municipality of Tías, next to the Volcanoes Natural Park and the Protected Landscape of La Geria. In a paradise such as the island of Lanzarote, which the Canarian artist and sculptor César Manrique described as follows: ‘For me, it was the most beautiful place on earth… and I realised that if they were able to see it through my eyes, then they would think the same as me’.

When?
When the volcanic eruptions of Timanfaya devastated the fertile land between 1730 and 1736, farmers covered the cultivated land with fragmented lava, or lapilli, in order to preserve moisture and protect the plants from such extreme weather conditions. In this way, the island was reborn from volcanic ash, and vine cultivation began with unique and exclusive varieties such as Malvasía Volcánica.

Who?
The winegrowers, heroes who not only sought excellence but found it. Investigating fearlessly, with courage and with the effort and passion possessed by those who know and respect their environment. Encountering the gateway that distinguishes and differentiates the extraordinary from the ordinary. Digging deep holes to reach the fertile soil where they could plant the vines. Thus developing the art of winemaking. The thread that connects heaven and earth. The abyss and the summit.

How?
Lanzarote grapes with designation of origin (D.O.). The secret of a fruit with a name and surname; pre-phylloxera varieties native to the island. Grape varieties that give our wines their excellence, such as Malvasía Volcánica and Listán Negro, which predominate in our production, as well as others such as Diego and Moscatel. An artisanal raw material transformed into an extraordinary wine.

Why?
So that the experience would remain still, fixed, immovable in the retina of those who see beyond what they look at. A moment in which ‘wine, landscape and winery’ blend on the palate, becoming tradition, culture and art.

For whom?
Only suitable for those who expect the unexpected. For those who find themselves in such an overwhelming and sublime space. From Robert Louis Stevenson, ‘[…] elegance on the palate’, to Herman Melville, who referred to its “quality”, to William Shakespeare, ‘[…] a wonderfully penetrating wine’.

But you have to come here and let yourself be won over, so that it is not always us who choose, but rather the wine from Bodegas Vega de Yuco that chooses us.
