The Malvasía Volcánica 'Esencia Yaiza', dry white of 2019, from Bodegas Vega de Yuco (Lanzarote) has been awarded a Silver Bacchus in the eighteenth edition of the largest international wine competition held in Spain. The International Wine Competition Bacchus, organized by the Spanish Union of Wine Tasters (UEC), managed to gather from March 5 to 9, during four intense technical sessions, the largest cast of wine tasters and professionals worldwide.
1,578 international oenological references, from the five wine continents, Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Oceania, have attended this year this world showcase and thermometer that measures the quality of the best wines in Spain.
The wines have been evaluated, in strict blind tasting, by a team of 80 expert tasters, in charge of scoring the best international wines. Among them are the most influential opinion leaders on the planet, Masters of Wine (highest international distinction), Sommelier Masters, sommeliers of the best restaurants in the world, specialized journalists, oenologists, critics and specialized experts and those responsible for purchases of large commercial areas. and importing companies, with internationally recognized firms and names that add professionalism and experience due to the diversity of their origin.
Silver Bacchus medals, such as the one obtained by the Malvasía Volcánica Esencia Yaiza 2019, are achieved in these blind tastings with a score of between 84 and 88 points.

Esencia Yaiza - Bacchus Silver Medal 2020
The dry white, Malvasía Volcánica, from the Esencia Yaiza line It was the first bottled wine from the Canary Islands from the last harvest of 2019. A wine that has been on the market since last September with a production of over 15,300 bottles.
The winemaker of Bodegas Vega de Yuco, Thomas Mesa Guanche, highlights that "The extraordinary quality of grapes selected for our wines in 2019, has allowed us to produce magnificent wines this year, not only dry and semi-sweet whites, but also rosé and red”.
Esencia de Yaiza is the genuine expression of Lanzarote's artisan viticulture. Upon reaching the winery, the Malvasía Volcánica, from the best farms on the island, is hand-selected, explains the winemaker. Later, it is fermented in steel tanks using cold maceration techniques, producing a highly expressive wine characterized by its freshness and aromatic personality.
This wine is pale yellow as the reflection of sunrise, with clean shades that denote its freshness and youth. From the first moment it surprises with touches of mango, guava and litchi, all of them characteristic aromas of the Malvasía Volcánica de Lanzarote. Little by little it evolves towards white pulp fruits, with notes of citrus and orange blossom. A complex and perfumed wine, with high aromatic intensity.
The entry into the mouth is smooth, showing its freshness and liveliness. A balanced wine that invites you to enjoy it again on the palate and that almost all people who taste it like.
Bacchus Awards
Bacchus is the only international wine competition in Spain that currently belongs to VINOFED, the federation that integrates the most renowned competitions worldwide. Added to this is the fact that it is recognized by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) of Spain.
