Excellence, innovation and sustainability, great protagonists in this first forum dedicated to the sustainable tourism development of Lanzarote
Bodegas Vega de Yuco – Finca Testeina hosted the first Sustainability and Innovation Forum dedicated to tourism in Lanzarote. This event, held in recent days, brought together more than fifteen experienced professionals and a hundred attendees. The main objective was to expand resources and knowledge in order to start outlining the measures and solutions of a roadmap that will catalyze Lanzarote towards a quality destination. All this, in line with the business strategy of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Within the framework of this forum, Luis Alvarado, climate advisor to the World Economic Forum, explained Lanzarote's position at a global level through Sustainability. In addition, in accordance with the seventeen SDGs, David Padrón, general director of Research and Coordination of Sustainable Development of the Government of the Canary Islands, starred in an informative video in which he spoke of the strategic alliances of Lanzarote today.
In a comfortable, participatory and co-creative environment, a series of topics selected by the organization of the Forum according to the experience of the speakers were raised. All the topics discussed took into account environmental, social and corporate factors as part of a global management system to improve the future of Lanzarote.
The corporate and competitive responsibility of companies was the first issue to be discussed. Today, tourist destinations are updating, more and more, to offer values and not products to their customers. In this way, personalities from large entities and business groups such as Alexis Robles, Héctor Fernández, José Valle, Susana Pérez and Víctor Fernández, led in a round table by Ana Yare Rodríguez, gathered with a clear objective. Share knowledge and investigate new tools to satisfy the new activities on the rise, within acclaimed sustainable tourism, of a society that is increasingly demanding with the governments and companies that surround them.
Along the same lines, the new tourism preferences towards which our society, and the world in general, is looking have created the need to offer an innovative destination, products and tourist activities. In order to find new trends and resources, professionals from the world of innovation such as Amelia Rico, Aránzazu Pérez, Dunia Mentado and Neftalí Acosta took part in the second panel discussion, moderated by Jaime Manrique de Lara. They proposed new possible trends and methods of transformation, with the defense and promotion of a quality environmental environment in Lanzarote as a primary point.
Finally, social responsibility was the closing theme of the Forum. To join forces and new strategies, Javier Benavente, Katy Martínez, Koldo Eguren and Luis Romero, representatives of the ALARES, Martínez Hermanos, Nuevas Claves Educativa and Líneas Romero foundations, respectively, focused on the importance of people. Under the moderation of Bisila Bokoko, they addressed the conciliation between society, companies and administrations. In addition, they proposed participatory processes of how actions are carried out to value people. Cipri Quintas was the one who closed the event speaking from a conscious, motivated and valued perspective, raising the figure of people and the environment that surrounds us as foundations of a project for the future in common.
This 1st Tourism Sustainability and Innovation Forum for Lanzarote was organized by Magma Innovation Services, with the aim of turning innovation and sustainability into the driving forces for the island. In addition, both the celebration of the Forum and the subsequent networking meetings and workshops have been possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Grupo Martínez Abolafio, MZ Hotels, Círculo de Empresarios de Lanzarote, HORECA Sustainability Solutions , Grupo Alisios, Saborea Lanzarote, Turismo Lanzarote and the collaboration of the Fundación Martínez Hermanos.
